Recruitment of
American Catcher to join the RAMS for 2009-10 Season
10/09/2009
The Committee and Coaching Staff at the
Newport baseball Club are pleased to
announce the recruitment of Kyle Moore from the University of Alabama to
take the role of primary catcher for the coming season. Kyle will
add much needed consistency to the position for the season ahead and
free up others such as Chris Bramwell, Scot & Troy Malthouse among
others to focus on
their role on the mound. He joins us after completing College
Ball in Alabama with some very impressive stats in both catching as well as
offensively with the bat, he is 23 years old and 6ft
tall so will be a good fit to the RAMS outfit
which has a lower average age than most other Division 1 clubs.
Kyle joins us with quite an accomplished Baseball CV considering his
relative young age, he has played in a number of College Level
Representative Sides including an exhibition series against Cuba.
He has also played in numerous Post Season Series so is no stranger
when it comes to big games and added pressure. "Kyle certainly
comes to us with great credentials and a good reputation as a committed
player and strong competitor, I look forward in anticipation to what he
can bring to the team both on and off the field" said Darren
Malthouse.

Kyle comes to the
RAMS along with his partner Lauren, who
herself is quite an accomplished athlete playing
Volleyball throughout her time in College. All at
Newport Baseball Club club are looking
forward to welcoming Kyle and Lauren to the
RAM-DOME. ________________________________________________________________________________________
The passing of Barbara
Minett, wife of Life Member Bill Minett 01/09/2009
Newport Baseball Club is saddened by the news of the passing
of Barbara Minett as a result of illness on the 31st of August.
Barbara was a long time RAMS member and will always be remembered for
her glowing smile and always being immaculately presented, not to
mention her love of the old bingo tickets that even when she won, she
usually donated the winnings back to the club. Barbara was the
wife of RAMS life Member Bill Minett and the mother of RAMS champion
player Greg. The Committee and Members of the Newport
Baseball Club wish Bill, Greg, Karen and Lisa our sincere
condolences.
The funeral service for Barbara will be held in Holy Trinity
Anglican Church, Nelson Place, Williamstown on Friday (4
Sept) at 10am, followed by a private cremation.

Last week Dean Anglin was appointed
as the General Manager of K-Rock Radio Station (based in Geelong).
K-Rock is in the BIG LEAGUES of radio stations and is at FM 95.5
broadcasting from Werribee to all along the Surf-Coast. It is a
huge role and a credit to Dean, who now as the GM no longer has to ask
anyone to do NBC work whilst on the
job... Well done Dean!!!_______________________________________________________________________________________
Junior RAM – Ayden Norman receives a Heroes award 07/08/2009
Last week Ayden Norman who plays in the U12’s Winter & Summer teams was
awarded a Junior Triple Zero Hero Award. Ayden was one of a small
number of children nominated for this award by emergency workers for
acting bravely and dialing triple zero when his mother took ill last
year. In effect Ayden saved his mother’s life on this occasion.
Ayden called triple zero alerting the ambulance to his mother’s
condition and managed to look after his younger sister, all the time
keeping himself and his sister calm until the ambulance arrived and took
over. Since this time Ayden has called triple zero again, as both
times his father was away with work. Ayden’s family is immensely proud
of his quick thinking and mature actions and so are we here at the
RAM-DOME. We would like to congratulate Ayden and also his family for
making him aware of the importance of responding quickly and calmly.

The
passing of Rohan Crotty former Rams player 23/7/2009
Newport Baseball Club is saddened by news of the passing of Rohan Crotty at such a young age of 42. Rohan came to play
with Newport in the early eighties with his 2 brothers David
& Peter. Rohan played juniors and then seniors with
the Rams, and as with all the Crotty family they fitted
straight into the club. Rohan went on to play for the
Saints in Geelong in the winter and was always known as a
strong competitor. The Committee and Members of the Newport
Baseball Club wish all the Crotty family our sincere
condolences.

Pre-Season Training... 20/7/2009
Well it is coming up to that time of the year when
we start preparing for the Summer Season.
This year will be another tough year with Newport staying up in DIV 1
and the season extended to 33 games. As with last year we WILL be
competitive but we will have to put in a strong and steady pre-season.
With this in mind it has been decided to start training on Sunday 2nd
August at 1.00pm followed by a BBQ.
All players who are looking to play in the 1sts, 2nds & 3rds are
expected to attend these preseason trainings. Players are to bring all
of their gear plus ( RUNNERS AND CLEATS).
These trainings will be sharp sessions with fitness and skills being the
priority.
Could all players please notify me with their intentions for the coming
season (Playing / Not Playing) on 0438622709 or
malt@impaq.com.au
All of the coaching group look forward to seeing you for the coming
season.
Regards
Darren Malthouse
P.S. Unfortunately Harvey Norman will not the
continuing their sponsorship for the 2009/10 season. To this end please
ensure you remove their advertising logo from your playing top prior to
the 1st game of the season.

Darren
Malthouse Appointed as Club Coach... 14/7/2009
Newport Baseball Club is very happy to announce the appointment of
Darren Malthouse as the Head Baseball Coach for the coming season.
Darren and the senior playing group had a tough year last season missing
a few wins by small margins so confidence is high with Darren at the
helm for the 2nd year. With the average age of senior
players younger than many clubs, Darren has had various input throughout
most of these players baseball careers at Newport. We consider Darren
to be the ideal person to take the players and Newport Baseball Club to
the next level as we are poised for strong growth which will impact
strongly on the next 10-15 years.
Darren has strong support from both the Committee as well as ALL
members and brings so much to the table through his own personal
experience, not to mention growing up through the junior ranks at
Newport himself. Momentum is building at Newport as younger players
mature and Darren is the ideal coach to take Newport forward.

James Lewer &
Max Katilius in Kangaroos... 14/7/2009
Josh Dunstone
off to Timber Jacks...
Baseball Victoria
recently announced the Victorian Little League Touring Teams for this
years tournaments in Lismore and the team to tour San Francisco in July.
Newport Baseball Club
would like to congratulate James
Lewer and
Max Katilius for making the San Francisco Team and Josh
Dunstone who made the Lismore Team.
These Little League
Touring Teams are seen as a great opportunity for the boys who have
worked hard to gain selection. At such a young age and early stage in
their baseball careers these boys will benefit enormously from the
experience confidence they will gain from playing in these teams with
other talented young players, as well as the level of competition they
will be playing in. This experience is something they will certainly
benefit from personally, but will also bring back to Newport where many
other junior players will also benefit from.
Everyone involved at
the Newport Baseball Club wishes James, Max and Joshua all
the best for the coming tournaments and has every confidence they will
do well.
