Special Announcement for 2022-23

Sean Arnott to continue as Club Coach and a big name recruit signs with the Rams

The Newport Rams are excited to make a couple of significant announcements as we look beyond the current season.

Club Coach Sean Arnott will return for his second season at the helm following an outstanding year in charge of our senior men’s program. The Rams enter the 2021/22 Division Two finals series in three grades, with the Ones aiming to go one step further this season having finished runner-up last season.

“We’re in a great place as a club and having Sean leading our teams into a second season will certainly strengthen that position” President Paul Walshe said of Arnott’s appointment. “Sean brings a wealth of knowledge to the club and a proven history of success. He has connected very well with our playing group and is universally respected by those on and off the field, this has been evident as he and the club have managed our players through the resumption of baseball following the implications of COVID”.

Gift Ngoepe family join NBC

In an additional boost, the Rams have secured the services of Gift Ngoepe, a South African National Team Member and former Major League Baseball (MLB) player with the Pittsburgh Pirates and Toronto Blue Jays. Gift has also played professionally in the Philadelphia Phillies organisation and with the Melbourne Aces and Sydney Blue Sox in recent seasons.

Gift, along with wife Cait and son Kiani will join the Rams in the coming weeks as they relocate to Melbourne.

Gift’s signing will not only benefit the Rams seniors on the field but will also mean opportunities for baseballers from around Melbourne to train with him as the Rams introduce a series of training programs for Juniors, Senior Men and Senior Women commencing this winter.

“It’s exciting to announce Gift, Cait and Kiani are coming to the club” Walshe said. “There has been a lot of work going on in the background over some months to get to this point and I am so pleased for the future of the club that we have attracted a player of Gift’s talent to our team. We have no doubt he will fit in perfectly and will offer so much to our current teams and the Rams of the future”.

Stay tuned for announcements on Winter Training Programs and School Holiday programs in the near future.

Although there is a lot of unfinished business for the Rams in season 2021/22, we already can’t wait to get started on season 2022/23.
