Dean Marnell appointed club coach for Winter 2017

I am pleased to confirm that Dean Marnell has been appointed as club coach for the 2017 Winter season.

Dean had an outstanding playing career; he was our first ABL player (Melbourne Monarchs) and was the first player produced by the Rams to sign a professional contract (with the Colorado Rockies organisation). He was an automatic selection in Bob Milne's All Star team as the starting shortstop.

In addition to being one of the best players our club has produced in our 89 year history, he was also our last senior Premiership Coach, in 2000.

Dean is recognised as an elite coach who is passionate about developing players and creating a winning culture. He is a three time BV Division 2 Premiership coach, winner of the Baseball Victoria Coach of the Year award and in addition to previously coaching Newport has also coached Essendon, Williamstown and Preston as well as overseas in Europe.

He is also currently on the coaching staff at the Melbourne Aces and was the coach of the Australian team at the recent Cal Ripken World Series in the USA.

Dean returns home to the Rams to "give back to the club where it all began."

On behalf of everyone at The Rams we are rapt that Dean has decided to come home and be part of what we are building. We wish him every success in his new role.

We will advise details about pre-season training as soon as they are available.
