It’s been a few years since Newport fielded a women’s team in the Victorian Summer League, but that’s about to change.

Led by long time Rams coach and Victorian Women’s Coach Dean Anglin, a number of big names are heading to the Rams to kick start a new era of women’s baseball at the club, with 5 time Australian Emerald, Bronwyn Gell the first to sign on for the 2020/2021 summer season.

“Our club has had over 50 female athletes play for us over the last 5 years, but we have never been able to establish a long lasting women’s program to provide the pathway” Newport Rams President Paul Walshe said “we hope that the summer of 2020/2021 is the start of a bright future for our girls and we deliver a program that all young girls can aspire to be part of”

The club has entered one team in Division 2 for this year, but will consider an additional team in Division 3 if the interest level supports it. To play Division 2 or higher an athlete must be 14 years or older, where as a 13 year old can play Division 3. Gell will play a leading role on the field, while also assisting with the development of the players at both training and games.

Our coaching staff will include;

  • Dean Anglin (Head Coach)

  • David Asp (Pitching Coach)

  • Rob Gell (Assistant Coach)

  • Bronwyn Gell (Player Development Coach)

“Stay tuned for many more announcements in the coming weeks as we build our team and program” Walshe concluded.
