Rams Heritage Day 2026

As part of our Heritage Day celebrations, we’re proud to unveil two very special pieces of Rams history.
The junior perpetual trophies known as the Stan Mackay Award and the recently named Mark Jowett Award, have been part of our club for over 50 years. These trophies were handcrafted by Life Member and Rams Legend - John Merriman, using mini-baseball bats brought back from the US by David Malthouse, they were first awarded in 1975 and every year after to the best junior players in their respective age groups.
In recent years we have run out of found space on the trophies to add further names, so the call was put out to John, now in his 80s to see what could be done. Over the past couple months John has refurbished both trophies, carefully restoring them and adding a new section that will now accomodate more Rams history - ensuring they will continue to honour Rams juniors for another 25 years.
The photo above is of John and his wife Sue collecting the trophies back in early December, ironically they are pictured in front of the Rams bar inside our club rooms, that John built in the 1970's, John also built our amazing honor boards, and pretty much the whole club rooms (along with others of course) in 1978. John and the Merriman family have been instrumental across many aspects of Rams Heritage, Sue personally hand made our onfield uniforms and warm up jackets in the early 80's and each of their children represented the Rams onfield and in Softball & Baseball. Many great memories.
Members attending Heritage Day are invited to join us for the unveiling of the refurbished trophies and all going well John and Sue will make the trip from Point Lonsdale to join us for this important moment in Rams History to celebrate this remarkable legacy of junior baseball, craftsmanship, and club pride.
